LiberalEvangelical.org aims to empower Christians who see themselves as radical moderates and to offer resources to Christian congregations who intend to be both Christ-centered and creatively inclusive. These Christians and congregations have both liberal and evangelical instincts, they find polarized political and religious debates alienating, and they are inspired by Jesus’ own example of radical inclusiveness and by his preaching of a love that transcends ideological and theological divisions.
Who are we?
We are people who answer to the liberal-evangelical description. We furnish on this site the kinds of resources that we ourselves find helpful and think are lacking elsewhere. We are egg-head intellectuals who have written on this topic and conduct research to deepen our knowledge of liberal-evangelical Christians and congregations. We are also practically minded church people who want to support moderate Christians and congregations. You can read more about us below. You are welcome to contact us with suggestions, comments, questions, news items, and article ideas.

He is a 1997 graduate of Boston University School of Theology where he majored in theology and drama. From 1997 – 2000 he served as Associate Pastor of the Wellesley Congregational Church, where he worked primarily in youth ministry. Chapin founded and leads the Christ Clarion Fellowship, a national gathering of young clergy supported by the Louisville Institute. Chapin is also a religious playwright, having had plays produced regionally, in New York, and in Boston. He is the author of Confessions and Taking Root (Baker’s Plays, 1998/2000). Rev. Dr. Wesley J. Wildman LiberalEvangelical.org Director Wesley Wildman teaches philosophy, theology, and ethics at Boston University, and runs the doctoral programs in science and religion there. Prior to coming to Boston University he worked as a full-time pastor in California and in Sydney, Australia. He is a founding director of the Institute for the Biocultural Study of Religion and participates in its research efforts. He and Chapin Garner wrote the two volumes Lost in the Middle? and Found in the Middle! (Alban Institute, 2008) for moderate Christians with liberal and evangelical instincts. Both authors are committed to a radically inclusive and intellectually robust form of Christian faith and life, one that appreciates the wisdom of the both ancient and the contemporary worlds, and one that sees Christianity as making most sense when in conversation with other religious traditions, not in opposition to them.
Dr. Brandon Daniel-Hughes LiberalEvangelical.org Blogger Brandon Daniel-Hughes is a professor of religion and philosophy at John Abbott College in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec where he teaches courses on World Religions, New Religious Movements, Comparative Ethics and Ritual Theory. Brandon has served in churches, both liberal and evangelical, as an adult educator and youth director. He is particularly interested in the ways in which churches struggle to make sense of the ideas and images that they have received from their ancient predecessors. He serves as an elder in his congregation, makes beer, grows vegetables, and routinely mangles the French language.
